Our Fight
We as students have been ignored far too long in the education system. The Department of Education of New York refuses to allow us any control over our own education. The government marginalizes us to mute our opinions, but our voices will be heard. The NY Student Union is a movement meant to put control in the hands of the students. We are not waiting for our teachers, parents, or principles to fight for us. WE ARE FIGHTING FOR OUR SELVES! Let it be heard that we will fight together as students for what is right despite what anyone else says. The education system tells us "pass or die," but we yell back "Whose Schools? Our Schools?!"
What We've Been Up To
The Student Union has been been building leadership throughout the school community to empower students to promote change. As a community, we are passionate about improving our quality of education in addition to allowing students to reach their maximum potential via the removal of standardized testing as a mandatory method of evaluation.
We have protested at PEP meetings (the first video) and have analyzed Regents Exams and their destructive impact in chapter unions! (the latter). How Can You Help?
Want to get involved? Any student can participate and collaborate at our meetings. If you are a new member, RSVP to our New members meeting. More information and RSVP form can be found on the Contact us page. You can get help starting a NY Student Union chapter in your own school and start building a ferocious movement with us.
